Remember how they always thought there wasn’t a way to kill a Toon? Well, Doom found a way. The thing is, Eddie Valiant is told about the dip by a policeman. It is the one thing that can permanently kill a Toon, since it’s effectively oil, paint thinner and film dissolver. In his introductory scene, we not only meet him, but we’re also introduced to the Dip, a horrible mixture of turpentine, azetone and benzene. Granted, they’re not openly resented or discriminated against, at least not from what we see, but it’s pretty clear that they don’t enjoy the same basic rights as normal people.Īnd to prove this, we need only look at what is perhaps the most infamous scene of the entire movie, featuring its most infamous character: Judge Doom. Namely that from the looks of things, Toons are second class citizens in this society. There is, however, a slightly bigger thing about the Toons which I think needs to be mentioned. Now I will freely admit that this isn’t actually something we need to know in order to enjoy the movie, but you can’t blame me for wondering, can you? But if that is the case… Who created her? HOW did they create her? If someone simply drew her, then how did she come alive? This in turn implicitly suggests that someone created her. Jessica Rabbit at one point says that she’s not bad, she’s just “ drawn that way”. After all, I can’t help but wonder, within the context of this world, where they came from. There are many different things, admittedly, that I find puzzling about the idea that Toons coexist with real life people in this world. And it starts with one of the most crucial and memorable aspects of this movie: the Toons. The reason is that there’s something that recently occured to me, which I’ve decided to share with you all. There’s also the issue that this article will contain spoilers, which I would think you’d like to avoid.īut assuming you ARE in fact familiar with this movie, you might of course be wondering… if I love it so much, then how come I’m writing about it? And if you’re somehow NOT familiar with it, then dear god, stop reading this right now and go watch it! You owe it to yourself. I could give my reasons why I love it, but honestly, what is there really for me to say, which others haven’t already said far better? If you’re even slightly familiar with this movie, you already know how good it is. So it’s hardly a surprise that I really love the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I believe, dear readers, that it should be pretty obvious by now that I have a particular soft spot for animated movies, given the sheer amount of time I’ve spent looking at various examples on this blog over the years.

On the center stack, a potent Kenwood 450-watt MP3 audio system is ready to entertain, along with a subwoofer that is now better packaged in the trunk.Īt a price of around $20,000 and with a limited production of only 2000 MazdaSpeed Protegés (1750 units destined for U.S. Inside the cockpit, aftermarket racing accessories such as the Nardi steering wheel, Sparco shift knob and alloy pedals and footrest continue the co-branding theme for the car. New MazdaSpeed badging and Spicy Orange Mica (exclusive) or Black Mica colors complete the exterior visuals. At the rear, the spoiler is redesigned and the taillights are tinted. A large front air dam with built-in foglights is followed by extended rocker panels to give the car a low and aggressive stance. On the outside, the MazdaSpeed car retains much of the MP3's understated but sporty styling. Mazda engineers tell us that this is due to the revised steering rack and the limited-slip differential on the new car. Through the slalom and the tighter parts of the autocross, even though the Protegé retains much of the MP3's dynamic behavior, its steering feel loses a bit of the quickness and sharpness that we admired so much on its predecessor. And with the addition of a limited-slip differential, the MazdaSpeed can apply all of its power to the asphalt with little wheelspin. The rail-like cornering ability transitions to an ample dose of acceleration on the straights. Driving through an autocross course during the car's introduction, the added power becomes apparent. Racing Hart alloy wheels and wider 215/45R-17 Z-rated tires are standard.Īccording to the factory, the 50-lb.-heavier MazdaSpeed Protegé can accelerate from a standing start to 60 mph in the low 7-second range. Enhancements such as the strut tower brace, higher-rate coil springs, revalved Tokico dampers and larger front and rear anti-roll bars are installed on the new car. Racing Beat, the outfit that helped tune the MP3 into a super-handling machine, continues as a partner to develop the MazdaSpeed Protegé's suspension and chassis setup. Larger 24-mm driveshafts (a 2-mm increase over the standard Protegé pieces) and a Tochigi Fuji Sangyo KK limited-slip differential are also added so that the car can better use all the available power. Keeping the increased horsepower in check through the car's front-wheel-drive system is a 5-speed manual transmission equipped with a heavy-duty clutch and pressure plate. Giving the MazdaSpeed that extra shot of fresh air into the 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine is a Garrett T25 turbocharger system that raises the output of the 16-valve powerplant to an impressive 170 bhp and 160 lb.-ft. The more powerful MP3 comes back in 2003 relabeled as the MazdaSpeed Protegé, wearing a performance nameplate that took the company to victory in the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans. Heeding the call for more power from enthusiasts, Mazda engineers, with assistance from Callaway Cars Inc., developed a turbocharger system for the car. of torque, the MP3 still accelerates at a snail's pace. With only modest power and torque increases from the base Protegé, to 140 bhp and 142 lb.-ft. However, it does lack the extra oomph needed to pull itself out of a corner quickly. In fact, the MP3 was included in our "Great Grip!" June 2002 cover story, competing for best handling honors against the likes of the BMW M3, Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 and Ferrari 360 Modena.Īt the racetrack, the MP3's steering precision and cornering ability hold their own against more expensive sports cars. Engineers at Mazda transformed the value-conscious, front-wheel-drive compact Protegé 4-door runabout into a first-class, great-handling sports sedan. As a decision, this mainly comes down to the taillights - they don’t look as dull compared to the Series 1 and Protege. When the Mazda MP3 made its debut in 2001, it took the automotive enthusiasts' world by storm. Notes and comparisons aside, I would prefer the 323 Astina SP20 - more importantly, a Series 2 from 2002 or 2003. But unlike the Mazdaspeed Protege and Protege5, both 323 models have black trim along the doors and “SP20” stickers on the sides and boot lid. Both share the same two-litre inline-four and put out the same amount of power. But while I do prefer the hatchback over the sedan, both cars could be much welcomed by the community.Īside from the body style, everything is the same between the sedan and hatchback. If you wanted to talk about the hatchback, the Protege5 or 323 Astina SP20, that applies the same concept. It’s an understated performance car, yet it looks like an everyday sedan from the late nineties. Even though you can have fun in high-performance cars, you also can enjoy throwing around a car like this. I would be happy for the Mazdaspeed Protege/323 Protege SP20 to return to the franchise. nah, gaijin just doesn't care about sim, barely any of their target whales play it. instead because Gaijin break everything, the Spitfires are almost completely avoided in Sim in my experiences so far. we can't have the Spitfire running riot in Sim battles.
